Freak-a-Zo!
Freak-a-Zo! is a rockfable-like journey into the world of abnormality. The work explores our impulses to celebrate the abnormal, our tragic compulsion to desire it and then to demystify and destroy it. One of the themes of Freak-a-Zo! is obsession.The characteristic traits of the works by choreographer Arja Tiili, such as references to popular culture, absurd humour and elements of surprise, can be found in this new creation. Arja Tiili is known for her style of breaking the boundaries between different genres. Essential for her creations are satire and black humour combined with original movement material. She doesn’t hesitate to combine pop culture with high culture, electric boogie with classical ballet and different dance styles in a boisterous mix.
Tiili's previous work at Zodiak was Deadly After Dark in 2006. She has also created works for e.g. Dance Theatre Minimi, Helsinki Dance Company, Dance Theatre Hurjaruuth and the Sun Ballet Company. Tiili is the artistic director and co-founder of the independent freelance festival INDIE Art Factory and the artistic director of her Pain Productions -dance group.
